My Hopes, Memories and Dreams

Sweetest Thing

Unraveling  inner  purpose

Requires exquisite execution

Bravely we must grasp

At

the corners

of those shiny layers

shrouding the Self

And in one delicate

motion

With a twist of Faith

Release the pull of opposites

To reveal the sweetness within

    • Hello Aziz,

Thank you for your comment. I have visited your blog and find you are an English teacher. Chichaoua looks like a facinating and beautiful land.

I would be honoured for you to use my poem in your classroom.

Best wishes to you and your students.

  2. Wow, I can just see a magician pulling a table cloth off a table with dishes on it. Lively symbolism!

This beautiful…would that “unraveling life’s purpose” took only the swift pulling away of the shroud. Thank you.

HI, I”m here via Poetry train. This is wise and inspirational. It’s like life magic: “to reveal…”

  5. Colleen, the imagery here is fantastic!! I agree with Linda’s comment above. How right you are about needing “exquisite execution” lest we leave ourselves knotted in the layers.
    This is wonderful, truly.

  6. Thanks for stopping by and commenting. I’m writing my second novel right now, so I only post once a week at most and rarely have time to read and comment on other blogs.

If you want to stay in contact, please feel free to email me with any questions. 🙂

  7. I was drawn strongly to one thought within your beautiful poem — that it takes faith to reveal what is inside. This is so loaded with meaning and like a pebble tossed into a still pond, could ripple outward in so many rings. Nicely drawn images in a poem worth digging into more and more. Thanks for sharing this with us.

  8. Like how you have shaped this poem into a spiral like an unwrapping which is what finally happens with the words

  13. Lovely poem; I write poetry too. I think we’re kindred spirits! I imagined this as pulling off a bandaid! But I related to it because it’s what I’m going through myself right now. Lovely blog. And nice to meet you on “She Writes.”

  15. I love the image of inner purpose being a candy to unwrap. Yes we have life but what a treat to have purpose. AND the visual to go with the words. Amazing art here.

    November 8, 2009 at 12:25 am

    • Yay ! That’s the image I was aiming for Jaymie..the unraveling of self like the unwrapping of a candy ! So glad you got it. But I appeciate too the other interpretations that I had not even discovered myself, that are all so beautiful and unique. That’s the beauty of poetry isn’t it ?

  20. I like your play on words. “twist of faith” instead of fate. I think that’show it works. We can’t alter our fate so you just have to have faith that things will work out. Whether it is in God or in oneself, hoope is a state of mind, not a state of being.

  21. Revealing the sweetness within reminds me of peeling an orange or a banana. I am enjoying reading the “fruits” of your labor!

Hi Colleen. Great poem. “Unraveling inner purpose” is a tremendous first line. I like how the middle lines seem to express a struggle of opening up. Clever 🙂
