My Hopes, Memories and Dreams

The Wet ~ Tropical North Queensland ~ Australia

Hi friends ! I thought I would share with you some pictures of my world here in Cairns, Tropical North Queensland, Australia. Right now we are in the midst of the wet season and it hasn’t stopped raining for days.

Today the kids and I had a bit of fun at the park at the bottom of our street that as you can see has transformed into a lake ! (Fortunately, we live on a hill !) Then we went for a short drive to the Barron Gorge to see her in all her glory. What a wonderful way to spend a Sunday !

This is a picnic bench. The seats are below water !

Ash, Chloe and Jack having fun !

The spectacular Barron Gorge

Surprise Creek Falls...about five minutes from home.

      • Well, just to let you know, we had a snowstorm last night. We went out for a drive this afternoon and it was around -15 with the wind chill. I’d rather have warm and wet any day. At least you don’t have to shovel rain. 🙂 I was out at 8:00am shovelling the drifts off the drive. lol. Oh, Life in Canada…..

Hope it stops raining soon. Have a great Monday. 🙂

Wow what an amazing place, but I have probably seen to many movies about Australia but swimming near a river?????? Are there Crocs? I know they’re not in the falls but what about the river? Just curious, ignorant but curious!

    March 30, 2010 at 5:55 am

    • Yes, you’re correct….the far north of Australia is the place for crocs and they can be found around the estauries of Cairns, and they do make their way up the creeks, however fortunately probably not where we were. Although we have beautiful beaches too, generally we only swim within the nets as crocs and stingers (jelly fish) pose a real risk. It’s an adventurous place to live !

  7. Beautiful! Green and water, that’s very nice, and playful in the rain, also good.

Must be something about Australia I guess. For so far away, so many I’ve met and appreciate, here by blog, call it home. And close neighbors if we don’t count the big blue thing in between. A well spent Sunday, and thanks.
