My Hopes, Memories and Dreams

Insomnia

Accelerated thoughts

Stream,

              Surge

At 1am

Nonsensical rapids

              of

                   images and words

Racing heart beats out-paced

                                                                           Dark corners taken unabashed

                                                        Such unhinged leaps of consciousness

                                                                            Transporting past to future

                                                                      …in reverse

No finish line of sleep in sight

                                                                                       At 1am

                                                                                                  My mind berserk !

  1. Nice poem, Colleen. Ah Insomnia, I know it well. I used to work nights many moons ago, and couldn’t sleep in the day. It’s a terrible affliction to suffer from. You captured it well.

      • I know the feeling at 1 am when the mind is traveling every which way but home.

Want to derail it, but I might need it to make breakfast with in the morning.

        thanks,

  6. You’ve created a “Palindrome.” Great job Colleen. Absolutely nails all the feelings of insomnia with it’s sharp edges and racing brain. Hope you are sleeping better. πŸ™‚
